Meet Carole Silvy

Who is Carole Silvy?

Carole is the deputy director of GATE 1*. Her mission is mainly to focus on the creation of startups in Grenoble. She gave us her feelings about the city of Grenoble and what makes it so attractive.

Grenoble, July, Grenoble INP, 11:00 a.m.

“Grenoble, a human-sized city”

For Carole, Grenoble, with its 160 000 inhabitants, is a human-sized city. Thus meeting people is easier, creating your network is simple. There is a particular state of mind. People rather stay in Grenoble than going to Paris for many reasons among which the size of the town and its public transportation system. People are also closer to each other and the quality of life is a real plus.

“Grenoble, a student city”

Carole explains that students mean initiatives. The youth are important for the innovation process. They are source of new ideas, new schemas and next technologies. Furthermore, in Grenoble, universities and programs have been design to directly meet the industrial world. With a population of more than 18% students, the city has bright future.

“Communication between actors is primordial”

Grenoble has a tradition of communication between the industry, the research and programs has we said above. Making it a leading city in France. INPG Enterprise SA created in 1991 was the third industrial knowledge transfer subsidiary in France and the first one to be accredited by the government in 2008. And the all new “student-entrepreneur" status that was born in Grenoble underlines this idea of exchange between the actors of tomorrow’s world.

“Grenoble, a shining city”

The history of Grenoble is full of great achievements among which the creation of the CEA Grenoble (a French government-funded technological research organization) in 1956 by the physics Nobel prize Louis Néel. Grenoble is also a very well-equipped city with 19 Equipex (Equipment of Excellence) and 21 Labex (Laboratory of Excellence) representing a government investment of over 300 million euros.
